Remember The CapemanFew people remember the Broadway disaster that was Paul Simon's The Capeman. In 1998 Simon wrote a musical based on the Capeman murders in New York in 1959 which featured Marc Anthony and Ruben Blades and received a critical panning and anemic box office receipts. Does this remind you of another more recent Broadway catastrophe? Maybe Bono and the Edge can join Simon for a beer to commisserate and share notes about their mutual flops. Simon empathized with former Spiderman: The Musical director Julie Taymor who was fired from the show recently after creative differences with the producers. In an effort to salvage what was left of The Capeman, Simon released an album of music from the musical, Songs from The Capeman, which received mixed reviews and was a commercial failure. Fortunately, Simon's latest outing, So Beautiful or So What, is receiving positive reviews and Paul Simon tickets for the accompanying tour should be a great find.
